Renaissance Radio Station

It is the desire of Bethanie Missions to reach out with the gospel to everyone in the country of Haiti. In order to reach out to each person, we must first be able to reach them. Haiti is a land of mountains. Many years ago, God put in the heart of Pastor Ignace the vision of sending the gospel out to Haiti over the air waves. As Pastor Ignace has said, “The Radio can carry the preaching where my feet can’t go.” Years later, when he heard voodoo witch doctors trying to evangelize on the radio, God knocked on the door of his heart to let him know the time was now to have a radio station.

God made provision for the vision by supplying a donation of land that sat high upon a mountain just north of the third largest city in Haiti, Les Cayes. This city is also the headquarters for Bethanie Missions. Funds were donated and the studio was built, permits were secured and the equipment was purchased. The station was to be called Radio Renaissance. The word “renaissance” is a French word that means new birth or revival. On October 12, 2003, Christian radio had a “new birth” with the first broadcast of Radio Renaissance. The gospel would be broadcast from this site on a 300-watt transmitter from a tall tower on the top of a mountain. An engineer and staff to keep the radio station in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, numbers 20 people.

Programming consists of not only preaching but music and programs of interest such as Franchette Augustin’s (Pastor Ignace Augustin’s wife) program on family and women’s issues. The programming is broadcast in 3 languages. Caribbean Creole is the common language. Approximately 30% of the population speak French and the station features some syndicated Christian broadcasts in the French language. The radio station also plays music with English words. The music can be enjoyed whether the words are understood or not and many Haitians want to learn English and enjoy listening to gospel music with English words.
