There is an expression “One man up with dawn in his eyes, multiplies.” A man came and saw a need in Haiti with the orphans. He went to God in prayer and developed a vision in how he could make a difference. This launched Lighthouse for His Lambs, Inc., a ministry that partnered with Bethanie Evangelical Mission of Haiti to start an orphanage.

There is a definite need because estimates for orphans in Haiti exceed 100,000. There are few government social programs to address these children in need. As a result, many end up living on the street or become slaves in someone else’s household. The abuse and neglect of many of these orphans is unthinkable yet is an ongoing problem. Rather than be overwhelmed with the need or avoid the thought because it is too painful to bear, there are people who have decided to make a difference.

Lighthouse for His Lambs, Inc., and Bethanie Mission have worked in partnership to start an orphanage in 2004. This first home can support up to 25 children. It is designed to be like a family where there is a Father figure, Pastor Daniel and Lucienne, a live-in Mother figure. There are several other adults that help with the care also. The children, between the ages of 3 to 9 years, all attend school and church at one of Bethanie Mission's Christian Schools in Les Cayes. The children can then go on to vocational/trade school, Bethanie Theological Seminary, or the local university.

The goal of the orphanage is not just to raise the children to adulthood, but to enable them with sound Christian education and the knowledge and skills to be able to go into the workforce and society fully equipped to make a difference in their community.
